Bandits hang tough at Rapids Tourney
News Republic Sports
WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Baraboo Post 26 Bandits senior American Legion baseball team met some strong competition at the Wisconsin Rapids Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, finishing the three-day event with a record of 0-4.
Despite the losses, including a one-run setback on Saturday to Dane County, 2-1, Baraboo came away with a sense of accomplishment against a field of four Triple-A legion teams.
"It was a good learning experience for the kids, and they walked away knowing they can play with some of the better teams in the state," said Post 26 coach Tim Luger. "Despite coming out of the tournament winless, there were certainly some moral victories and that will make us a better team."
After falling to Wisconsin Rapids 11-10 on Friday, Baraboo went on to drop two games on Saturday, including a 5-1 decision against Green Bay.
On Sunday, the squad’s pitching depth was tested and Beloit went on to win, 16-0, in five innings.
"We’re going to see these kinds of teams come regionals and district play, so it was a good measuring stick for us," Luger said.
The Bandits (5-7) travel to Sauk on Wednesday.
