Indians advance with win over Royall

The WIAA softball tournament started on Thursday with a pair of area teams squaring off in the opening round.

Royall traveled to Wonewoc to take on the Wonewoc-Center Indians for Division IV regional action.

The Scenic Bluffs Conference rivals split their regular season matchups but the Indians were able to score in the bottom of the seventh to keep their season alive with a 3-2 win.

Royall took an early lead when Rachel Williams and Morgan Harris each drove in a run to put Royall up 2-0 after the top of the third.

W-C responded in the bottom of the third, scoring off hits by Katie Bell and Kailey Fulton.

The Indians were able to shut down the Panthers the rest of the way and Jordan Lehman was able to bring in Fulton to give W-C the   3-2 win.

W-C will play at Weston on Tuesday, in the second round.
