Golfers dominate again

A Dells golf fan making the story up might not have been so generous.

To say the Wisconsin Dells High School varsity golf team enjoyed a dominant conference season is truly an understatement as the team wrapped up a second straight perfect season at Tuscumbia Golf Course which is apparently in the Ripon area.

As they have done all season, the Chiefs made the overall team score event a battle for second place, its 322 overall score giving it an edge of 37 strokes over second place Wautoma Hornets

A double (18-hole) round meant double scores, so the Chiefs collected 10 team points for the overall win, giving them a perfect season total of 35.

The eight for second place clinched the runners up spot overall for Wautoma with 25.5 while Nekoosa finished third and Adams-Friendship edged out Mauston in the closest battle of the season, for fourth spot.

Westfield did not compete this season.

Individually, the Chiefs topped even the previous season, taking every individual honor available and putting four of five team members on the First all-South Central Conference team.

Michael Holzem and cousin Patrick Holzem split the six events at the number five spot, leaving both a little short of qualifying for the all-Conference spots.

However, they certainly step up as among the favorites to replace seniors Jade Royston and Keelan Kimball on the varsity squad next season.

Jade Royston was the overall individual conference champion, edging out Justin Ward who finished in the runners up spot, just in front of teammate Keelan Kimball.

Next was teammate Josh Krueger.

Logan Dahlke, medalist at the season opener in Nekoosa, but then never again, nonetheless put together a good enough season to grab the other First Team spot.
