Lake Delton to test for rock
By Andy Steinke, Dells Events
Before Lake Delton goes ahead with plans to extend sewer and water mains on Hillside Drive, it will conduct soil borings to see how far down the rock is in the area.
The Sewer, Water and Storm Water Committee met last month to discuss the extension to Joe Palumbo’s two properties on Hillside Drive west of Pocahontas Circle, but were met by requests from town residents in the area who would also like to hook into the systems.
Monday afternoon, MSA Engineer John Langhans gave the board four options for what it could do.
The first option would extend the lines from their current end point on Hillside Drive to Palumbo’s two properties, at a cost of about $256,000.
The second option would run the mains a little further, to the village’s northeast limits on Hillside Drive, and would cost about $357,000.
The third option would cover the same area as option two as well as future possible annexations to the north, including Pocahontas Circle, but the excavating depth would have to be at least 34 feet to accommodate the gravity-feed system Langhans is proposing. The option is estimated at $708,000, and Langhans said it isn’t ideal.
Option four would have the same coverage area as option three, but would incorporate a lift station. It would cost $705,000, but doesn’t take into account the stations operating costs.
“The village needs to think about what it wants it’s future service area to be,” Langhans said. “Based on my information, option one is best for your current needs, and option four is best for future growth.”
All would require Hillside Drive to be reconstructed, because the village keeps its lines under roadways.
The village must decide how far it wants the lines to go, because that will determine how deep they need to be buried.
The board decided to go ahead with soil borings along the entire option four route, which Langhans said he could push to have done in a month.
In other business, the board did the following:
- Adopted an ordinance repealing and recreating the amusements and entertainments ordinance.
- Approved a building permit for Kristin and Mark Schmitz to build a single-family residence at 140 Whitlock St.
- Approved a building permit for James and Barbara Mattei to build a single-family residence at 521 Canyon Circle.
- Adopted an ordinance to correct village ordinance 08-001. When the ordinance was passed, annexing the Coldwater Canyon Veterinary Clinic into the village, it used an incorrect certified survey map number.
