Track and field squads pass conference pre-test
The Wisconsin Dells High School varsity girls track team didn't beat three opponents at the Wautoma South Central Conference Quadrangular on Tuesday afternoon. They buried the competition. The Lady Chiefs earned their third straight meet win with a domination of track events. The Chiefs captured wins in five out of eight distance races and three of four distance relays. The team did just fine in the field as well, taking wins in the shot put and high jump. The only distance race the Chiefs didn't win was the 3,200m (two-mile) event and the two hurdles events. In the 1,600m race, the Chiefs swept the podium, Stacey Swatek, Taylor Hickey and Kiersten Norgard wrapping up a 1-2-3 finish. All that helped the Lady Chiefs rack up 120 team points, nearly double the 65 collected by second place Nekoosa Papermakers. The host Hornets were third with 50 points and Adams-Friendship collected 25. The boys missed winning the competition by two points, but that was enough to drop them all the way to third in one of the closest three-way finishes in recent memory. An 84 point total gave the Papermakers the Quad win, the Hornets collecting 83 and the Chiefs 82. Adams-Friendship was a distant fourth with 20. The boys did the girls one better in the relays, winning all four. David Sikorski, Matt Reichoff, Wilson Nock and Zach Bachelor set a new school record in winning the 4 X 100m relay in 44.36 seconds. Girls Four individuals and the three relay teams picked up first place finishes at the meet, Swatek and freshman Heather Conroy collecting two wins apiece. Conroy took the tap in the 200m race in 27.72 seconds, Allie Swatek right behind her in 28.51 seconds. In the 400m race, Conroy finished in 1:05.38 for the win.
