Frosh-soph tracksters make presence felt at Baraboo
The Wisconsin Dells High School underclassmen don't need a special meet to shine. They already play a key role on the team, but at the frosh/soph invitational at Baraboo on Monday afternoon, they were truly dominant. The varsity girls team from Wisconsin Dells High School have overall team wins in the past three events they attended. The freshman and sophomore half of the group unofficially kept that streak alive beating an impressive group of teams at the Baraboo meet. The Chiefs used wins in five individual events and three relays along with another half dozen individual and one more relay second place finish to lead the way with 181.5 points, more than 40 up on the second place meet hosts. The boys ultimately ranked sixth overall in the event, scoring wins in two individual events and two relays on its way to a 75.67 point total, just 3.33 behind fifth Place Portage and 4.33 behind fourth place Reedsburg. The 4 X 400m relay team of Heather Conroy, Janelle Julson, Taylor Hickey and Stacey Swatek established a new school frosh-soph in the event with a winning time of 4:18.2 and Swatek set a meet record while lowering the school mark for a fourth time this season in the 1,600m event with her winning time of 5:25.6. Swatek also won the 800m race in 2:24.6, Swatek just over a second behind and Kiersten Norgard giving the Chiefs a podium sweep with her third place time of 2:42.4.
