Golfers open conference season

The Wisconsin Dells High School varsity girls golf team is no longer the newest entry in the Badger North Conference.

The Chiefs made the trip to Reedsburg Country Club Thursday afternoon to face the Reedsburg Area High School squad in that school's inaugural conference dual Friday beginning at about noon.

With three varsity team members firing personal best rounds, the locals got its season off to a winning start, putting up a nine-hole score of 224, compared to 253 for the host side.

Kirsten Schueler, looking to get under a nine-hole score of 50 this season, hit it right on the nose with the senior's personal best score despite some extremely fast greens on the Reedsburg course.

With that score, Schueler matched fellow senior Devan Dollar for the team's low rounds.

Mary Moore was close behind with a round of 58 while freshman Tama Estobo also notched a personal best score of 66 to round out the team's score. Samantha Mueller also put up a personal best round with a score of 72. In junior varsity competition, Marley Schultz began her season with a round of 90.

Coach Troy Ryan was pleased overall.

"Three personal bests and two scores that will come down. That shows our season goal of getting under 200 in achievable," said the coach.

The Chiefs will play host to its first conference dual Thursday afternoon with a 4 p.m. tee off against Waunakee.
