Kreyer cruises

Wisconsin Dells’ Frank Kreyer led the last 117 laps of Saturday night’s American Speed Association Midwest Tour Race for the Gold Silver 125 at Dells Raceway Park, in Wisconsin Dells.

But it was anything but smooth sailing for Kreyer, who held off a pair of strong challengers for his first ASAMT win.

West Salem native Steve Carlson continuously pushed Kreyer for the top spot throughout most of the race before contact with another car sent him to the pits with four laps to go.

"I have raced with Steve for a long time and the guy has beaten me every single time I have raced against them," Kreyer said after the race. "But I will tell you what, I never had a guy like Carlson rough me up, he gives me a lot of respect and I like them guys. They were in my bumper and they would do what they had to do. I was cool with what he was doing and he was letting me know he was there."

Nekoosa’s Steve Holzhausen, who moved from fourth to second when Carlson went to the pits and Chris Wimmer was sent to the back following their crash, couldn’t make a move to pass Kreyer the rest of the way.

"I was faster but I couldn’t work the outside," Holzhausen said.
