The Wisconsin Dells girls basketball team continued its dominance over the South Central Conference, capturing its third straight outright SCC title with a 51-38 win over Wautoma last Friday.

The Chiefs, who received eight votes in the latest Division 3 Associated Press poll, extended their winning streak to 18 games and capped off a season sweep of the Hornets in the process. Wautoma hung close early on, but the Chiefs (19-1, 9-0 SCC) began to pull away and took a 27-16 lead into the break.

Wautoma made a push out of the intermission but was never able to get over the hump against Wisconsin Dells and its star duo of junior Katelyn Meister and senior Jenna Mace. Meister, who averages a conference-best 20.1 points per game, scored a game-high 19 points, while Mace (18.6 ppg, third in South Central) added 16, including a pair of 3-pointers.

The good news kept coming for the Chiefs on Sunday when they were awarded the No. 1 seed for a third straight year in their half of the Div. 3 Chippewa Falls sectional. Wisconsin Dells will open postseason play on Friday, Feb. 23 against eighth-seeded Altoona (6-14) or ninth-seeded Adams-Friendship (7-14), who the Chiefs already beat twice this season.

A win over the Railroaders or Green Devils will advance the Chiefs to their third straight regional final against likely No. 4 West Salem (15-6) or Arcadia (12-7). A second consecutive regional final victory could set up a rematch against Wautoma or second-seeded Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (17-4) on Thursday, March 1 at Osseo-Fairchild.

If they can advance all the way to the sectional final, the Chiefs may find themselves against top-seeded Hayward. The Hurricanes (18-2) are no stranger to deep postseason runs, reaching at least the sectional semifinal in each of the last six seasons and sectional final in four of the last six.

The Hurricanes finished state runner-up in 2015 and followed it up with a state title in 2016 and will provide quite a challenge for the Chiefs should they get that far.

Wisconsin Dells 60, Lake Mills 33

Senior Jenna Mace scored a game-high 27 points as the Chiefs won their 19th game in a row with a 60-33 victory over Lake Mills in a non-conference game at Wisconsin Dells High School on Tuesday night.

Wisconsin Dells also got 11 points from junior Katelyn Meister in the win, which improved the Chiefs to 20-1 on the season.
