A two-run deficit was no match for the Wisconsin Dells softball team Tuesday as the Chiefs scored the final 12 runs en route to a 14-4 win in six innings over Wautoma in a South Central Conference game at Kaminski Park.
Wisconsin Dells (2-0, 1-0 SCC) got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first but fell behind 4-2 after a four-run third inning by the Hornets, but the Chiefs quickly reclaimed the lead. After sitting down the Hornets in order in the top of the fourth, Wisconsin Dells scored four runs in the bottom half, including a two-run triple by freshman Maddie Jones, to take a 6-4 lead.
Wisconsin Dells was far from finished as it tacked eight more runs over the next two innings to put things away. In the fifth, the Chiefs hung five runs on the Hornets, including a two-run single by freshman Kayla Gray, to go up 11-4.
The Chiefs then added three more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game, closing things out on an RBI single by Gray, who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Junior Maddy Voigt went 3-for-4, sophomore Molly McClyman went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and juniors Katelyn Meister and Bethany Smith each doubled.
Freshman pitcher Gracie Walker was dominant in the circle, allowing just two earned runs on four hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks in the complete game win.
