Wisconsin Dells junior Allison Anderson will be joining the state’s top golfers when the WIAA State Golf Tournament tees off Madison next week.

Anderson qualified for the state tournament by shooting a 14-over-par 86 at Tuesday’s Division 2 Edgewood Sectional held at Yahara Golf Club in Madison. Anderson becomes the second player in the history of the Wisconsin Dells girls golf program to make it to the state tournament, joining Ivy Fedewa, who qualified in 2015.

Anderson was one of three individual state qualifiers from the sectional, joining Jefferson senior Alexa Owen, who shot an 85, and Osseo-Fairchild senior Grace Eide, who shot an 87. Madison Edgewood won the sectional with a 357, earning one of two team spots at the state meet from Tuesday’s sectional. La Crosse Aquinas finished second with a 368, becoming the second team to qualify for the state tournament from the sectional.

Wisconsin Dells originally qualified for the sectional as a team, but only three of the five team members were able to compete on Tuesday. Sophomore Maura Alvarez shot a 21-over 93, while freshman Kayla Gray shot a 26-over 98.

The WIAA Girls State Golf Tournament will take place next Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison.
