Two days after clinching the Badger North Conference championship with a 3-1 win over Waunakee, the Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells prep boys hockey team picked up its ninth straight victory with a 6-2 win over DeForest in the regular season finale on Thursday night at the Poppy Waterman Arena in Lake Delton.
The Cheavers (18-5-1) scored the game’s first five goals, including three from Ben Horzewski, who added a pair of assists to finish with a five-point night. Derek Pawlak and Tarren Gruber netted the other two goals for RWD, while Nicolas Breunig had seven saves to get the win in goal.
RWD has received the No. 3 seed in its sectional and will next play in a regional final game against No. 6 seed Baraboo/Portage or No. 11 seed Sparta on Thursday night in Reedsburg. The Cheavers swept Baraboo/Portage this season, beating the T-Birds 4-3 in Lake Delton back on Jan. 4 and 4-1 on Feb. 1 in Baraboo.
