Boy Scouts of America’s Wisconsin River District Committee held its annual business meeting May 9 where Portage Scoutmaster Justin O’Rourke was named committee chairman. O’Rourke’s appointment is expected to be approved by the Glacier’s Edge Council Executive Board in June.

The Columbus Public Library has a new book club to help serve those members of the community who may have special reading needs. The Columbus/Fall River Senior Book Club will feature audio books and large-print books and will meet on two different days per month at two different locations.

Senior Master Sgt. Matthew Balliet, a Pardeeville High School graduate, retired from the United States Air Force on April 1. He enlisted in November 1997 as an electrical systems craftsman and he served for 16 years as an engineer and five years as a missile alert facility manager.
