Rock River Archaeological Society will host its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Horicon Marsh Education Center, N7725 Highway 28, Horicon. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Guest speaker, Eva Hall-Heim will share the story of her father, George Hall, who was a German prisoner of war held in Hustisford. She will present what it was like for the family as they immigrated to Hustisford after the war, how at 10-years-old, she was the only family member who spoke English, and how they almost missed the chance to immigrate.
There were more than 100 “Prisoner of War” camps in Wisconsin and it was forbidden to publish anything in the newspapers about them, but the people living near them knew all about the camps. Many lasting friendships were formed as the prisoners worked on local farms and in local businesses.
