The Baraboo girls basketball team did its part in the annual Badger Challenge on Friday when the Thunderbirds defeated Fort Atkinson 48-36 at Madison Edgewood.
It was a tale of two halves as Fort Atkinson’s Tyla Staude couldn’t be stopped early, as she scored 12 points for the Blackhawks in the first half alone. Baraboo trailed 26-23 at halftime, but contained Staude to six points in the second half while Lexi Johnson exploded offensively to propel the T-Birds. Johnson scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half as Baraboo went on to win by 12.
“I felt good, the kids were real happy,” Baraboo coach Michael Behl said. “The hard work is paying off so it’s nice getting rewarded with a win.”
Lia Kieck added 14 points of her own, while Haley Hannagan had eight.
