Adele Griffin

Adele Griffin chips onto the green of the 13th hole during Monday's Badger North Conference dual against Reedsburg at Baraboo Country Club.

The Baraboo High School girls golf team dropped a close Badger North Conference dual meet for the second straight day.

Portage got the best of the Thunderbirds on Tuesday, handing Baraboo a 184-191 loss over the course of nine holes at Portage Country Club. Coach Landon Brownell said it was still a successful day as it was a team-best for the T-Birds.

“I owe them ice cream for breaking 200,” he said. “Portage had a record day as well. I commend all the girls for doing that in that buggy condition. The mosquitoes (made it) almost unplayable.”

Portage’s Sophie Denure had the lowest score of the day, shooting a 40 on the par-35 course to lead all 10 varsity golfers.

Baraboo’s leaders checked in five strokes back, as Adele Griffin and Carly Moon each shot a 45 for the T-Birds. Griffin recorded a personal best for the second straight day, dropping two more strokes after shooting a 47 in Monday’s 205-206 loss to Reedsburg at Baraboo Country Club.

Claire Huebsch added a 50 for Baraboo, while Sadie Schlender shot a 51 and Caroline Lewison finished with a 55.

Portage had enough to pull away. Anna Davidson shot a 45 to tie Baraboo’s leaders, while Rachel Hepler added a 48 and Maddie Mumm shot a 51 to round out the scoring for the Warriors.

Portage: Sophie Denure 40, Anna Davidson 45, Rachel Hepler 48, Maddie Mumm 51, Katelyn Williams 58. Baraboo: Carly Moon 45, Adele Griffin 45, Claire Huebsch 50, Sadie Schlender 51, Caroline Lewison 55. At Portage CC, par 35.
