The Baraboo High School girls golf team dropped a close Badger North Conference dual meet for the second straight day.
Portage got the best of the Thunderbirds on Tuesday, handing Baraboo a 184-191 loss over the course of nine holes at Portage Country Club. Coach Landon Brownell said it was still a successful day as it was a team-best for the T-Birds.
“I owe them ice cream for breaking 200,” he said. “Portage had a record day as well. I commend all the girls for doing that in that buggy condition. The mosquitoes (made it) almost unplayable.”
Portage’s Sophie Denure had the lowest score of the day, shooting a 40 on the par-35 course to lead all 10 varsity golfers.
Baraboo’s leaders checked in five strokes back, as Adele Griffin and Carly Moon each shot a 45 for the T-Birds. Griffin recorded a personal best for the second straight day, dropping two more strokes after shooting a 47 in Monday’s 205-206 loss to Reedsburg at Baraboo Country Club.
Claire Huebsch added a 50 for Baraboo, while Sadie Schlender shot a 51 and Caroline Lewison finished with a 55.
Portage had enough to pull away. Anna Davidson shot a 45 to tie Baraboo’s leaders, while Rachel Hepler added a 48 and Maddie Mumm shot a 51 to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
