The Baraboo prep girls soccer team dealt with a lot of pressure Tuesday night.

The host Thunderbirds couldn’t deal with all of it, suffering a 7-0 loss to Monona Grove in a non-conference game.

Monona Grove (3-2-1) tested the Baraboo defense from the get-go. The Silver Eagles earned a pair of early corner kicks in the sixth minute and two more scoring chances in the 10th minute, but goalkeeper Adele Griffin and the T-Birds (2-2) were able to keep a clean sheet early on.

Monona Grove broke through in the 29th minute, as Mady Davis-Troller scored to give the Silver Eagles a 1-0 lead.

They found the back of the net again at 37:39, as Griffin saved a header but Monona Grove picked up the rebound and Ashley Price scored to give the Silver Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead.

Monona Grove wasted no time adding on in the second half. Gabi Arnold got free for a 47th minute goal, then Maelia Dzedzic lifted a long shot over Griffin’s head for a 4-0 advantage.

The T-Birds had several chances in the next couple minutes, including a Kaela Wunluck shot that was saved and a corner kick in the 51st minute.

But Monona Grove goalie Sophie Wendt held them off and the Silver Eagles maintained the bulk of the possession the rest of the way, getting insurance goals from Price, Allison Gibbons and Dzedzic to improve above .500 on the season.

Baraboo will host a Badger North Conference game against Waunakee on Thursday.
