The Baraboo/Portage boys hockey team and Badger Lightning girls hockey team — a Baraboo-based co-op — both earned No. 7 seeds in their upcoming WIAA tournaments.

Baraboo/Portage (5-16) is seeded seventh and will host 10th-seeded Viroqua on Feb. 12 in a WIAA regional semifinal at Pierce Park Hockey Rink in Baraboo. The winner will advance to take on second-seeded Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston on Feb. 14 at Poppy Waterman Ice Arena in Lake Delton.

Baraboo/Portage suffered a pair of losses to the Reedsburg co-op during the regular season, dropping a 4-2 home loss on Jan. 4 and a 5-1 road loss on Feb. 1. Baraboo/Portage has two regular-season games remaining, hosting Sauk Prairie Feb. 7 before visiting DeForest Feb. 9.

The Sauk Prairie co-op boys hockey team is seeded fourth in the same sectional and will host the La Crosse Aquinas co-op in a Feb. 14 regional final. The Onalaska co-op is the top-seeded team in the sectional.

The Lightning (1-13) will go on the road in their playoff opener, visiting the second-seeded Beloit Memorial co-op on Feb. 14 at the Edwards Ice Arena. Beloit Memorial swept Badger during the Badger Conference season, handing the Lightning a 7-0 road loss on Dec. 11 and a 10-1 home loss on Jan. 8.

The winner will move on to face the third-seeded Onalaska co-op or sixth-seeded Stoughton co-op. The Sun Prairie co-op is seeded first in the sectional. The Lighting will close out the regular season by hosting Viroqua on Tuesday before visiting Brookfield on Friday.
