An Ashland man will face a fourth-offense drunken driving charge after a Friday morning incident in which police say he nearly struck a Sauk County Sheriff’s deputy’s squad car.
At 2:15 a.m. on Highway 33 in the town of Delton, a deputy reported seeing a vehicle cross the center line, forcing the officer to take evasive action. The deputy avoided a collision and later stopped the vehicle, the sheriff’s office reported. The incident occurred on Highway 33 near Sand Road.
During a field sobriety test, Daniel M. Mayotte, 43, showed signs of impairment due to alcohol consumption, according to police. He was arrested and transported to the county jail. Mayotte already has been convicted of operating while intoxicated three times.
A charge of fourth-offense operating while intoxicated, a felony, will be referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office.
Mayotte also faces a drunken driving charge in Sauk County in a January case that has not yet concluded.
