Percy H. Seamans, 95, of Reedsburg, formerly of Lake Delton, died on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, in the Reedsburg Area Medical Center.
He was born on June 28, 1923, in the town of Ironton, Sauk County, the son of Frank and Mina (Wheeler) Seamans. On Sept. 19, 1968, he was married to the former Hazel D. Blakeslee. Percy was a graduate of Lime Ridge High School, Sauk County Teachers College and the Platteville State College. He later received his master’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin. Percy taught in several one- and two-room rural schools for 14 years. He then was the teaching principal at the Lake Delton Elementary School for 26 years. Percy was a Sauk County 4-H leader for 25 years. He was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Reedsburg and was a member of the Reedsburg Writers Club. Percy had a great love for books and operated the Wise Owl Bookstore in Lake Delton for many years. He enjoyed reading and writing poetry, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; two sisters-in-law, Bernice (Tony) Matyas and Marsha Blakeslee; one brother-in-law, Robert Blakeslee; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Wava Schroeder, Nelda Hanold, Ruby Holderman and Elva Luedtke; and one brother, Ronald Seamans.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the First Baptist Church in Reedsburg, with Pastor Bob Brandhagen officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. There was a visitation after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Baptist Church would be appreciated.
