One resident died Friday in a house fire outside Baraboo.

Baraboo firefighters were dispatched before 8 a.m. to a report of a structure fire on Terrytown Road west of the city. Upon arriving at the scene, located in the town of Baraboo near Cornfield Road, first responders encountered a single-family home fully engulfed in flames.

Capt. Mike Stoddard of the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office reported three residents were inside the home at the time of the fire. Two were able to escape, but a 60-year-old woman died inside.

Baraboo Fire Chief Kevin Stieve reported that 30 firefighters worked the scene. Firefighters from the Reedsburg, North Freedom, Lake Delton, Sauk City and Kilbourn departments responded to a call for aid. Terrytown Road was closed between Cornfield and Highway BD to all but emergency traffic as crews worked at the scene.

Stieve said the fire investigation is active and ongoing.
