Sauk County must fix high turnover in top positions

As the Baraboo News Republic reported Wednesday, over the past 18 months several highly regarded senior administrators of Sauk County have either resigned (chosen to leave their long-term positions with severance packages which prohibit them from discussing the reasons for their leaving) or had their employment terminated. Any one of these high-profile departures would give any organization cause for an internal review.

It’s too late to correct these past errors, but it is not too late to prevent them from happening in the future. At the very least, an independent organization must be engaged and managed by a special ad-hoc committee of the board to review and evaluate what processes and practices have led to what can only be described as a systematic failure of leadership and to make recommendations to the entire board for how to correct them.

Peter J. Vedro, Sauk County Supervisor, District 15, Baraboo
