The August Derleth Society was shocked and saddened to learn of the abrupt vote of the Sauk City Village Board to rename August W. Derleth Park as Sauk City Riverfront Park and respectfully requests that the board reverse their decision.

The ADS is disappointed that the village board did not solicit ideas and opinions from the citizens of Sauk City, nor did they have the courtesy of contacting the ADS of the pending name change. The name could just as easily have been changed to the August W. Derleth Riverfront Park.

The notion of increasing tourism by eradicating the name of the one person who was -- without exception -- the biggest promoter of the area in the last 100 years seems incongruous and perplexing.
