MAYVILLE — On May 17, the Mayville PTA hosted the second Fun Run at Parkview Primary School and Mayville Middle School with nearly 640 students, wearing shirts themed “Cardinal Power—We run together like birds of a feather!”, running as many laps as possible in a 20-minute time period. Collectively these students raised more than $18,800 in pledges in an effort to renovate their school playgrounds. Due to the support from 23 local business sponsors, the event was free and each student received a free t-shirt. Total profits came in at more than $19,500 due to the amount of local sponsorship.
The Mayville PTA Fun Run began as a means to provide small playground equipment after the label redemption program they had been using was eliminated. The Mayville School District joined in and together they formed a Playground Planning Team to address the larger needs of the school playgrounds at both schools.

Additional funding options are being researched and this summer a portion of the funds raised from the fun run will be used to install a few independent pieces at Parkview including a handicap swing, some spinners, and a climbing wall. Further renovations at both schools will be revealed at a Playground Reveal Community Celebration held from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Mayville Middle School for the community.
