More than 150 high school students from six different area schools competed Jan. 5 in the fourth annual Lake Emily ice fishing tournament.
The Waupun High School Outdoor Club, led by adviser Jim Lund, hosted the event. This was mainly a catch-and-release event. Team plaques were created by student Jake Loomans in his Warrior fabrication class at WHS. Schaumburg’s Supper Club for provided lunch for the anglers. Other donors included HT and Joel Brown Holliday sports in Waupun, Subway, NAPA, Taco Bell and The Chalet in Fox Lake.
The big fish for the tournament were a 36-inch northern by Cam Krause of Waupun and a 20-inch bass by Oliver Schultz of Waupun. The top anglers of the tourney were Ben Lund of Waupun, who caught more than 20 pike and bass, and the top pan fish angler was Trevor Engel of Campbellsport with close to 50 pan fish.
Last spring, the Waupun Outdoor club with help from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association raised $4,000 and planted 4,000 crappies in Lake Emily.
