JUNEAU – A 21-year-old inmate is being charged with battery by prisoner after an incident that sent two people to the hospital with head injuries.
Harinder S. Jutley, Waupun Correctional Institution, made his initial appearance via video conferencing on charges stemming from an incident on Nov. 21, 2011.
According to the criminal complaint, a psychiatrist at the prison was asked to meet with Jutley because he seemed to be having issues with his incarceration.
The psychiatrist said that Jutley had mental issues and needed medication. She said the conversation seemed to be going well when Jutley got out of his chair and approached her. The psychiatrist said Jutley did not appear to be agitated, but he wasn’t acting normal either.
According to the criminal complaint, Jutley suddenly jumped back and kicked the psychiatrist in the chest, knocking her backward, where she hit her head on the window ledge.
The complaint stated that when the corrections officer waiting outside saw Jutley attack the psychiatrist, he rushed into the room and tackled Jutley into the wall. The officer could not remember what exactly happened after that. He said he struggled with Jutley for an extended period of time until other officers arrived to assist in getting Jutley under control.
The officer had a two-and-a-half inch gash on the top of his head, multiple lacerations and abrasions, swelling on his arm and a bite mark on the back of his neck.
