JUNEAU — A 49-year-old Beaver Dam woman is accused of coercing a teenage boy who lived in her neighborhood to have sex with her by making threats against the boy’s sister.

Jennifer B. Schmidt is charged with a felony count of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16 and two felony counts of repeated sexual assault of a child. She could face up to a sentence of 120 years in prison and $300,000 in fines.

Schmidt appeared Friday before Dodge County Court Commissioner Steven Seim, who placed her on a $5,000 cash bond. She may not have contact or communication with the victim or his residence. In addition, she may not have unsupervised contact with any minors.

According to the criminal complaint, the mother of the victim contacted police Sunday evening to report that Schmidt was having an inappropriate sexual relationship with her 15-year-old son. The mother told police she had found a bag with a letter, candy, condoms and Schmidt’s underwear in it. The mother told police that the bag was left at the home of the victim’s father around April 28.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim told police that Schmidt had asked him to have sex with her and he told her that she was too old. The victim said he had non-consensual sex with Schmidt after Schmidt threatened to kill his sister’s unborn child.

Police contacted Schmidt during the weekend, but she originally denied a relationship with the boy. However, her story changed Thursday when police spoke to her again and she told them that the two had been in a relationship.

According to the criminal complaint, Schmidt told officers that the two loved each other and would probably violate a restraining order if one was put in place. She said the physical relationship began in March and that she knew it was wrong the whole time. Schmidt told officers that they did use a condom and had sex about 10 times in March. In addition, she said they had sex three times in April.

Schmidt told Beaver Dam officers that the boy was like her son and she would make him meals and he’d play with her dog until the time when they had sex. According to the criminal complaint, after that she would put a heart on her calendar every time they had sex. Schmidt reportedly showed a Beaver Dam officer the futon where the two had sex and the calendar where she wrote down the dates.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 16.
