Delbert “Wayne” Armstrong, 81, Columbus, died Sunday, May 12, 2019, at his home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1937, in rural Jennings, Oklahoma, to Delbert W. and Eula (Kenyon) Armstrong. Wayne was a 1954 graduate of Oilton High School. He was employed more than 35 years, and retired from American Packaging Corporation of Columbus. Wayne married Vivian L. Lee on Oct. 27, 1962, at Zion Lutheran Church in Columbus and by God’s grace celebrated their golden 50th anniversary together in 2012. Wayne served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a corporal E4 while on active duty for two years (1956-1958) stationed on Lake Erie at Fort Clinton, Ohio, in the RCATS (Radio Controlled Aircraft Targets) unit. He then served inactive duty for an additional six years at Fort Chafee, Arkansas. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus.
Survivors include his twins, Michele Stute of Elkhorn and Michael Armstrong of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his daughter, Lori Armstrong of Madison; one granddaughter, Rachel Stute; one sister, Delores Reed of Manford, Oklahoma; three brothers, Kenneth of Reno, Nevada, Larry of Jennings, Oklahoma, and Gary of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and one sister, Wanda.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 18, at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus. The Rev. Robert Wilke will officiate. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus, with full military honors. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
