Juanita Cabreda

Juanita “Janie” Cabreda, 67, of Beaver Dam, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

Visitation will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church on Friday, Sept. 23, from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at the church on Friday, Sept. 23, at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Erick Cassiano officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Juanita Romero was born May 19, 1949, in Weslaco, Texas, to Fermin and Gregoria (Castillo) Romero. At a very young age Janie worked in the fields as a migrant worker. She was a 1971 graduate of Weslaco High School. After graduating high school she worked for Texas Migrant Counsel working with the Head Start program involving young children. While working there she attended the University of Texas—Pan American where she obtained her child development associates degree. She then became center director of Head Start. She later worked with La Raza, a government program to help find housing and employment for migrant workers. In 1975 she met Regulo “Reggie” Cabreda and they had three children. Later, Janie worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Clearview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Juneau for nine years. She returned to school at Moraine Park Technical College and obtained her nursing license (LPN) in 1989. She retired in 2009 after 29 years at Clearview. She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish and volunteered at the Dodge County Food Pantry. Janie was a hard working dedicated woman who devoted much of her life to helping others in need.

Survivors are her children, Jacob (Jessica) Cabreda, Jennifer (Camilo) Gallegos, and Joseph Cabreda all of Beaver Dam; grandchildren, Quentin and Tegan Cabreda, Jasmine Garcia and Gabriel Gallegos; her sisters, Minerva Peralez of Mercedes, Texas, Valentina Medrano of Weslaco, Texas, and Elvira (Jesus) Trevino of Mercedes, Texas; also other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1980, her mother in 1999 and her husband in 2005.

Memorial donations may be directed to St. Katharine Drexel Parish or to the Dodge County Food Pantry.
