Nancy N. Behrend, 83, Beaver Dam, died peacefully at her home Friday, March 8, 2019.
The memorial gathering will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam on Thursday, March 14, from 9:30-10:50 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Erwin officiating.
The former Nancy Nellie Neis was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Beaver Dam to Irving and Nellie (Smith) Neis. On June 9, 1956, she was united in marriage with Jack Welsch in Beaver Dam. He passed in 1964 and she later married Cal Behrend. Nancy was a constant giver, always putting others first. She spent much of her time volunteering at the Care Center, Meals on Wheels, blood bank and with the Salvation Army. She was often seen at church functions, helping with the Catholic Women or serving food for funeral luncheons. It should be no surprise Nancy received volunteer of the year award twice for her continuous selflessness. Nancy loved summer and would spend most of her days on her lawn mower or tending to her garden. She spent every morning sipping coffee, playing solitaire and would often get together with friends to play Dirty Clubs. Nancy was a devoted member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish.
Survivors are her daughters, Jackie (Ray) Oestreich of Beaver Dam, and Debbie Huck (Mitch) of Lexington, South Carolina; son, Joseph (Jerri) Behrend of Cottageville, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Julie (Kyle) Strey of DuPont, Washington, John Reifsnider of Columbus and Jill (Cindy) Reifsnider of Fort Atkinson; three great-grandchildren, Owen, Avery and Cooper; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lee and Judy Welsch, Judy Welsch, Nancy Welsch and Bob and Susie Welsch, all of Beaver Dam; numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sisters, Carol Mae (Harold) Hoch and Sharon (Larry) Kant; brother, George (Doris) Neis; son-in-law, Jerry Viita; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jen Soboleski, Sylvia Romeo, Gladys Schoenwetter, June (Roland) Knorr, Carol (Joe) Kurkowski, Larry Welsch and Jim Welsch.
