Otto Erwin Zills, 88, rural Waupun, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at Waupun Memorial Hospital with family at his side.
Otto was born March 29, 1930, in the town of Oakfield, son of Ernest and Mathilda (Kollman) Zills. He attended Lowell School in the town of Oakfield, Lone Oak School in the town of Byron and Oakfield High School. Otto lived and farmed in the town of Byron near Oakfield. Otto married Amber Mielke on May 19, 1956, in Waupun. In 1961, they moved to Waupun and farmed and raised St. Bernard dogs. He was supervisor for the town of Trenton for many years, on the board at the Farmer’s Elevator, and an elder for many years at the church.
Otto is survived by his wife of 62 years, Amber; son, Clete (Charlene) Zills of Waupun; three granddaughters, Courtney, Candis and Christal; special friends, Betty (Don) Lange; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Archie; two sisters, Ruth Batterman and Delores Malzhan; sister-in-law, Marie Zills; two brothers-in-law, Neil Batterman and Marvin Malzhan; three nephews and one niece.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun and Thursday, Feb. 14, from 10-11 a.m. at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 Madison Street, Waupun.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. at church with the Rev. David Knuth. Burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Otto’s name and decided at a later date.
