He was born on October 12, 1932, to Arthur and Magdalene “Helen” (Gruenes) Kahlow in Mayville. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Mayville High School, where he graduated in 1951. He enlisted in the Air Force and served four years, earning the rank of Airman First Class. He was a communication radio operator during the Korean War, intercepting Russian and Chinese Morse code.

In his younger years, Ted enjoyed tending bar at his dad’s bar, Art and Martins, in Mayville and Riverview Inn in Kekoskee. He was a supervisor in shipping/receiving/assembly at Mayville Metal, and after 31 years, retired in 1991. He was a member of the Mayville American Legion Post 69, for 48 years. He served on the Mayville Park Board and was a Babe Ruth Coach. He loved sports and could be seen or heard at the Mayville football and basketball games. Ted was a diehard Bears and Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Cubs finally win the World Series after a 100 year drought.

In 1987, Ted and Pat moved to Fox Lake, where he made many new friends and enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides on the pontoon. Ted enjoyed spending time with his family and good friends, volunteering for the American Legion, brat fry’s, bowling, golfing, deer hunting Up North, fishing on Fox Lake, gardening and sharing produce with others. He loved all animals (God’s little creatures) and loved feeding the birds and the squirrels. After retiring, he spent many years exercising at the Sports and Fitness Center at Beaver Dam Hospital, and he volunteered as a driver for the Dodge County transportation.
