Opening date announced for Mayville Hometown Pharmacy

Hometown Pharmacy, which has a location inside Rechek's Food Pride in Beaver Dam, will open a store in Mayville next week.

MAYVILLE — Mayville will soon have a pharmacy again.

Hometown Pharmacy confirmed that its new location will open May 22 at 1448 Horicon St., the location of the old Ace Hardware next to the Piggly Wiggly. The pharmacy at the Shopko closed in February, leaving Mayville without one.

Hometown Pharmacy, a Rio-based chain, already has local locations in Beaver Dam and in Randolph. The company has been expanding rapidly across the state and has around 70 locations in Wisconsin.

Shopko went bankrupt this year and announced all of its locations would close, including in Beaver Dam, Columbus and Mayville. The Shopko pharmacies have already shuttered, with Walgreens officially taking over pharmacy assets from Shopko. The nearest Walgreens stores to Mayville are in Beaver Dam and Waupun.

After the Shopko closing, Mayor Rob Boelk reached out to several different pharmacies to gauge their interest in opening a location in town, and Hometown quickly responded to the offer.

Shopko cited excessive debt and competitive pressures in the decision to shut down.
