Fond du Lac/Beaver Dam Girls Hockey Team Wins Conference

The Fond du Lac/Beaver Dam girls hockey team poses for photos after Saturday's 1-0 win over the Fox Cities Stars gave the Alliance the Eastern Shores Conference championship.

The Fond du Lac/Beaver Dam co-op prep girls hockey team was at its best when it had its back against the wall Saturday, it turns out.

Morgan Brown’s shorthanded goal 3 minutes, 3 seconds into the third period was all the Alliance needed on offense to claim a 1-0 win over the Fox Cities Stars at Tri-County Ice Arena in Neenah, giving Fondy/Beaver Dam — a 12-school co-op that includes Wayland, Waupun and Dodgeland — the Eastern Shores Conference championship.

Fondy/Beaver Dam’s Abby Okon had 21 saves — 10 of them during the second period — to notch the shutout.

Next up for the Alliance (18-2), the top-ranked team in the state in the WisconsinPrepHockey.net/coaches poll, is a game at Hartland Arrowhead on Wednesday.

The Alliance will be the No. 1 seed in their sectional when postseason play begins in two weeks and have a bye in the regional finals. They will begin their bid to make it to state for a second straight year against either the fourth-seeded Green Bay co-op or fifth-seeded Brookfield Central co-op in a sectional semifinal game on Feb. 19 at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac.
