Hannah Fox wasn’t just good in the back row — she was great.

All-time great, as a matter of fact.

And after setting the single-season Columbus record for digs, the sophomore on the Cardinals prep girls volleyball team can also add one more accolade to her resume — a spot on the All-Capitol North Conference second team.

Fox wasn’t alone among Columbus players in all-conference recognition, as sophomore setter McKenzye Bruss and senior middle blocker Emma Dugan both received honorable mention.

Fox had 415 digs this year, shattering Lauren Kirchberg’s record of 349 set last year. Fox had a little over half of her digs in conference matches, and also had a .930 serving percentage in conference play.

She also was voted as co-team MVP along with Bruss, who had a dynamite year of her own, obliterating the single-season program record for assists with 359 — with 176 of them coming in conference.

The previous record number of assists was 219 set by Josie Swatek in 2011.

Dugan’s serving percentage in conference also was .930, and she had 70 kills and 20 blocks in her role at the net.

Making her accomplishment more impressive is that at 5-foot-7, she isn’t nearly as imposing as many of the girls she’s up against. She also was voted by her teammates as the winner of the Hustle Award and was co-winner of the Coaches Award, which is chosen by Columbus head coach Stephanie Juedes.

Columbus finished the year fourth in the the Capitol North with a 4-6 record but competed well throughout, even pushing conference champion Lake Mills Lakeside Lutheran (9-1), the reigning WIAA Division 2 state champ, to the limit in all three sets of a 26-24, 25-23, 26-24 loss on Oct. 9.
