The public is welcome to come out and support the Cardinals Unlimited archery team at its home tournament — the second annual Cardinal Shootout — this Saturday, Feb. 18, at Columbus High School.
This is the team’s only home event. The tournament will get underway at 8 a.m. and run until 5:30 p.m. Most of the Columbus archers will shoot at 8 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
The day’s activities will include:
- Concessions by the Booster Club (roast beef sandwiches).
- Clothing sales (Cardinal Embroidery will be on site selling and printing shirts).
- A huge raffle sponsored by the Booster Club. It will include a $500 meat cooler (meat from Johnson’s Sausage Shop in Rio), a $100 hot stix cooler (Pernat & Haase Meats), a muzzleloader donated by Whitetails Unlimited, a hunting basket, cosmetic baskets, a Genesis NASP archery competition bow and arrows, a $250 shotgun shell reloader donated by Mayville Engineering Co., homemade jewelry and more.
- A prize range. For $3, people will get five arrows to try to hit the spot on a 3D animal with one of the supplied bows and win anything off of the prize table. (There will be loads of stuff, and it should be fun for the kids!)
In other archery news, the State Tournament has been scheduled for Friday, March 31, in Wisconsin Dells. Plans are for the 125+ Cardinals Unlimited team members to take four buses up to the tournament. Buses will be leaving from Columbus Middle School and Columbus High School at 10 a.m. More details, including a full roster and itinerary, will be available in mid-March.
