The Columbus Lions Club is proudly participating in the 31st Annual 2018-2019 Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The theme this year is “Kindness Matters” Bringing peace to the world, through one child at a time. The Peace Poster Contest is open to middle school students in grades sixth, seventh and eighth from local schools. Lions International is sponsoring this contest to promote world peace to students everywhere.
The students are given the theme and a few simple guidelines and then set free to create their own unique and imaginative masterpieces.
The Columbus Lions are excited to share the works of the students who chose to participate. The students attend Columbus Middle School, Fall River School, Zion Lutheran School and St. Jerome’s School.
You can go and see the art work on display at the Columbus Public Library, the NAPA store, James Street Pizza Co. and Quamme Insurance and various other businesses in the Columbus area for the next several weeks.
The winning posters from each school were selected for their originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme. The students were presented their awards at their respective school the week of Nov. 10. In addition to their awards, each first place winner from each school received $25, each second place winner received $15 and each third-place winner received $10. The winner from each school at the local level will have their artwork sent to the district wide, state, national and international competition. There are hundreds of thousands of entries from around the world. Ultimately, one grand prize winner will be selected from 24 international finalists. The grand prize includes a $5,000 plus an all-expenses paid trip for the winner and two family members to New York City for the Lions Day awards ceremony at the United Nations Building in the spring of 2019. As merit award winners the remaining 23 finalists will each receive a cash award of $500.
