Under the guidance of new director Tim Emery, students at Columbus School District hit the stage for their first choir concert of the school year.

Columbus High School hosted the Fall Choral Collage Nov. 1 inside the gymnasium. The show featured performances from sixth, seventh and eighth grade choirs, concert choir, treble choir, La Voce and On A Side Note, the high school’s a cappela group. Karla Hoffman performed as accompanist.

The sixth grade choir performed “Children of Peace” and “The Water is Wide,” while La Voce sang “Misty” and “Salmo 150.”

On A Side Note, featuring members Quinn Altman, Otto Henning, Todd Jordan and Josh Quintana, received a raucous cheer for its performance of “Sh-Boom.”

The seventh and eighth grade choir belted out “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from “Hairspray” and “Send It On” by Disney’s Friends for Change. Treble choir sang “Adiemus” and “Prayer for the Children,” while the concert choir performed “Famine Song” and “Hand in Hand.”

The night ended with a spirited performance of “O Sifuni Mungu” from the combined choirs.

Columbus Middle School will host a holiday concert Dec. 13 with the high school choir to follow on Dec. 18. The CHS spring musical is set for March 15-17, 2019.
