Dear editor,

We are pleased to report that the Columbus Blood drive June 18 at the Zion Lutheran Church provided 74 units being donated by 63 donors. We also recognize Joy Vander Sanden for earning her eight gallon pin donation.

We thank the Zion Lutheran Church for hosting our blood drive, Kevin White of Contree Spraying for sponsoring the event, the Zion Ladies Aid group for providing the delicious lunch for donors, Culver's for donating the dessert custard, the Olivet Church ladies for their homemade cookies, the Columbus Lions Club for set up and take down table help, Kevin Damask from the Columbus Journal and Ed Schellin for publicizing our event. Our thanks also go to Dick Powers for putting up lawn signs and Darlene Marks for delivering posters to the local businesses. We appreciate the many volunteers who helped out as greeters, registration workers, canteen and donor aides. All of the volunteer help we receive is extremely valuable to our overall successful blood drives.

Our next blood drive will be Tuesday, Oct. 29 held again at Zion Lutheran Church. It is very helpful to the Red Cross if appointments can be made in advance to help them with staffing requirements to keep wait times down as much as possible, but walk-ins are very much appreciated. We find that the best times for walk-in donations are between 2-3:30 p.m. Appointments for this drive can be made in October by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767.
