WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (AP) - Republican state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald is urging party members to take seriously the threat of losing control of the Senate.
Fitzgerald urged the party faithful at its state convention Saturday to work to ensure that doesn't happen. Six Republicans and three Democrats in the state Senate are being targeted for recalls because of their position on a bill targeting union rights.
Democrats need to pick up three seats to gain a majority. Fitzgerald says he thinks Republicans could actually gain a seat following the recalls.
Fitzgerald joked about the protests that engulfed the Capitol earlier this year, saying the convention was the first time he had been around so many people who weren't chanting and yelling at him. And he says, "You all smell a lot better too."
