The Baraboo boys swimming team beat out 12 area teams on Saturday, including the likes of DeForest and Waunakee as the Thunderbirds took fourth place at the Fondy Memorial Invitational in Fond du Lac.
The Thunderbirds recorded a total of 202 points, ahead of the Norskies in fifth (177) and the Warriors in sixth (171). Sun Prairie took the title by storm (581.5), followed by Bay Port (389.5) and North/KM/Pewaukee (288).
Junior Aidan Lohr led the way with two individual titles on the day, the 200 yard IM (1:58.73) and the 100 backstroke (:53.38). Lohr also led off the 200 medley relay team, recording a split of :24.81 and was followed by sophomores Luke Stelling (:28.5), Jacob Laux (:25.79), and Ethan Klingenmeyer (:22.84). The quartet combined for a 1:41.94 to take second place only behind Bay Port (1:40.88).
Laux found plenty of other top times as well. The sophomore took third out of 33 swimmers in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.29) and eighth in the 100 butterfly (:57.06). He also helped the 200 freestyle relay team to a sixth place finish with a time of 1:36.84. Laux led things off (:24.72) and was followed by Jakob Lemke (:24.86), Josh Hackbarth (:23) and Klingenmeyer (:24.26).
Other top finishers for Baraboo included Hackbarth in the 200 free (ninth, 1:55.79) and the 100 free (fifth, :51.62); Klingenmeyer in the 50 free (eighth, :23.67); Lemke in the 500 free (12th, 5:32.41); and Hackbarth, Mitch Hamm, Lemke, and Lohr in the 400 free relay (seventh, 3:30.7).
Other Baraboo point contributors included Lemke in the 200 free (16th, 1:59.12); Hamm in the 200 IM (16th, 2:22.89); and Hamm, Isaac Brewer, Ben Beal, and Stelling the 200 free relay (12th, 1:40.53).
The Thunderbirds will travel to DeForest on Tuesday for a Badger North Conference dual.
