The Los Angeles duo was among the most consistently entertaining recording acts of the last decade, having scored high marks with each of its three studio offerings of original material — the 2010 debut “Crazy for You,” 2012’s “The Only Place” and 2015’s “California Nights.”
Now, Best Coast — which consists of duo, consisting of vocalist-guitarist Bethany Cosentino and guitarist Bobb Bruno — returns with its first album in five years and it’s another winner.
The band remains proudly, and quintessentially, SoCal on “Always Tomorrow” as it serves up wave after wave of its patented mix of surf rock, indie-pop and Go-Go’s-friendly new wave. Yet, there’s undoubtedly more of an edge to this collection than usual, as if Cosentino is coming to the realization that all that glitters is not gold.
