New Lisbon School District welcomed its new superintendent and business manager Monday afternoon.
Dennis Birr and his wife Cindy were the guests of honor at a reception held in the Library Media Center.
Birr, who graduated from University of Wisconsin -Whitewater with a bachelor's and masters degree, first taught math at Arrowhead High School in Heartland for three years, then taught math at Reedsburg High School for 28 years.
Following that he was business manager at Parkview in Orfordville.
He said, "I was in charge of everything financial such as human resources, food service, transportation, buildings and grounds. I was supervisor of those areas."
He said he is very excited to officially start the new dual position Wednesday and is also "excited for the opportunity."
Though former superintendent Tom Andres told Birr that it is a challenging time for the school district, Andres said he believes the district will be providing solid leadership with Birr.
Andres said, "Dennis has been training here. He has taken vacation days from his last job and has been to the last couple of school board meetings and will attend tonight. I will be leaving because having two heads does not work."
Andres plans to spend his time volunteering on some homeless projects that he "is looking into."
Birr said, "I hope with my experience I can provide the leadership."
He is presently going to school for his superintendent license at Cardinal Stritch in Milwaukee, which will take him about 18 months to complete.
Cindy is an elementary physical education teacher in Sauk City. They reside in Reedsburg.
The couple has three sons; Dan, his wife Kiersten and their one-year old daughter live in Iowa; David is a professional dancer in Los Angeles and recently performed in the Grammys and Mike is a junior at Viterbo University in La Crosse and is a theater major.
