Members of the University of Wisconsin Band played to a packed gym on Saturday at Mauston High School.
The band, under the direction of Professor Mike Leckrone, entertained the crowd with several classics including tributes to The Eagles, Frank Sinatra, Ben E. King and music from “Les Miserables” and the Wisconsin band’s legendary “Fifth Quarter” performance played after every UW home football game. Its spirited “Chicken Dance” routine got Saturday’s crowd on its feet, clapping, dancing and waving its arms.
Local talent was on display as Mauston graduate Shawn Laursen and Wisconsin Dells alumnus Jacqui Hilliard played during Saturday’s show. Just before kicking off its raucous “Fifth Quarter,” Leckrone handed Laursen the microphone and the UW senior responded with “It’s time for some ‘Fifth Quarter.’”
The band will hold its annual spring concert with a series of shows at the Kohl Center on the UW-Madison campus this weekend.
