Mauston Golden Eagles 82, River Valley Blackhawks 46
Behind senior shooting guard Kyran Fitzgerald’s career-high 25 points, the Golden Eagles (7-2) pushed their winning streak to three with a convincing non-conference win over River Valley (4-6) Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Mauston.
In addition to Fitzgerald’s 25 points — his second straight game scoring at least 20 — junior guard Cade Hall and senior guard Trevor Gallagher added 18 and 13 points, respectively, for Mauston in the win.
Wonewoc-Center Wolves 48, Brookwood Falcons 47
After trailing by five at halftime, the Wolves (3-5 overall, 1-3 Scenic Bluffs) used a stronger second half to notch their first conference win of the season in a one-point victory over Brookwood (3-5, 1-3) Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Ontario.
Wonewoc-Center senior small forward Kory Helm scored 14 points, junior small forward Dawson Miller added 13 points and senior small forward Taylor Geitz chipped in 12 points in the win. Junior point guard Alek Martin finished with a game-high 20 points and senior guard Jack Mulvaney had 10 points for the Falcons.
Bangor Cardinals 52, Royall Panthers 49
Royall (3-4 overall, 1-3 Scenic Bluffs) fell just short of an upset over conference-leading Bangor (9-1, 4-0), losing to the Cardinals 52-49 Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Elroy. The Panthers trailed 34-24 at halftime, but nearly pulled off the comeback in the second half.
Bangor junior forward Grant Manke scored a game-high 22 points to lead the way for the Cardinals. Royall senior guard Cameron Logan led his team with 18 points, while junior guard Keith Schnurr and senior guard Dane Hyer contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Hillsboro Tigers 51, Necedah Cardinals 41
The Cardinals’ offensive woes continued and their losing streak hit five games with a loss to the Tigers (6-4 overall, 3-1 Scenic Bluffs) Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Necedah.
Hillsboro junior guard Seth Wallace scored a team-high 13 points, junior guard Noah Feala added 12 points and junior forward Cade Jensen had 11 points. Junior guard Jaron Murphy finished with a game-high 14 points and freshman guard Landen Murphy chipped in 11 points for Necedah (2-7, 0-4) in the loss.
Mauston Golden Eagles 63, Westfield Pioneers 36
The Golden Eagles rang in the new year with a 27-point win over conference foe Westfield (3-8 overall, 1-2 South Central) to improve to 3-0 in South Central Conference play Friday, Jan. 4 in Mauston.
Mauston senior shooting guard Kyran Fitzgerald posted 20 points in the win. Senior guard Trevor Gallagher added 14 points, senior point guard Joe Bauer finished with 11 points and junior guard Cade Hall chipped in 10 points as well for the Golden Eagles.
