JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — A 5-year-old boy’s adorable choice for his school’s “Dress as Your Favorite Person Day” is winning hearts in Arkansas and online.
Easton Blocker decided to dress up as the school’s security officer, Jeffery Cross, because he keeps him and his classmates safe.
“He tells me every day, ‘Officer Cross keeps us safe from the bad guys, mommy,’” the child’s mother, Lauryn, told a local news station.
School district officials on Wednesday shared photos of the boy and his hero dressed in similar outfits at Bobby G. Lester Elementary School in Jacksonville, a suburb of Little Rock.
The district is the first in the state to have armed officers in its schools after a new law went into effect this year, according to CBS affiliate KTHV.
“They had questions about why I was armed, and I was just telling them, ‘I’m armed to protect them from someone bad who would come and hurt them,’” Cross told the station.
The officer said the boy’s touching move makes him “appreciate my job more.”
“Just for the fact that he shows his appreciation and he hugs me every day when he sees me every morning,” Cross said. “It really makes my day.”
