When Twitter got up and running Thursday afternoon following a nearly hour-long outage, users of the platform were quick to have some fun at the social media giant's expense.

As users were breathing a sigh of relief after service returned Thursday around 3 p.m. Central, Twitter posted an explanation on its status page blaming an "internal configuration change" that it was fixing.

During the outage, which appeared to have affected both web and mobile app users, Twitter's home page read in part, "Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing."

According to Down Detector, a website that tracks outages, problems were being reported from the United States, Europe and elsewhere.
