When Twitter got up and running Thursday afternoon following a nearly hour-long outage, users of the platform were quick to have some fun at the social media giant's expense.
As users were breathing a sigh of relief after service returned Thursday around 3 p.m. Central, Twitter posted an explanation on its status page blaming an "internal configuration change" that it was fixing.
During the outage, which appeared to have affected both web and mobile app users, Twitter's home page read in part, "Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing."
According to Down Detector, a website that tracks outages, problems were being reported from the United States, Europe and elsewhere.
Below are a few of the more clever (and safe for work) posts shared Thursday afternoon, including those that helped make #TwitterDown a trending topic:
Fail whale forever
Time stands still
Blast from the past
Breath of fresh air
Back to your battle stations
What did I do?
Is it just me?
I'll save you!
Somebody's gotta do it
No one deserves that
This is what it's come to
First step is admitting it

#WhenTwitterWasDown I had just finished watching #StrangersThings3 and obviously I had a brief hiccup of panic when I imagined a world without twitter. Who would listen to our unsolicited commentry on pop culture and society in general? What a nightmare. #twitterdown— Just Fez For Now (@Wonder_and_Live) July 11, 2019
