TOWN OF WOODLAND — Authorities say a fire destroyed a home early Monday morning about 17 miles west of Reedsburg.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said a caller reported a fire at E859 County EE in the town of Woodland at around 12:45 a.m. The property is owned by Amy Vande Hei, according to county land records.

“The reporting party stated that there was a house on fire, possibly started by a wood stove in the basement,” Sheriff Chip Meister said in a news release.

He said emergency crews that arrived on scene found the home completely engulfed in flames. They tried to extinguish the blaze, Meister said, but the home was considered a total loss. No injuries were reported.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by fire departments from Cazenovia and Wonewoc, as well as emergency medical services staff from Cazenovia.
