Students throughout the region may have a free sandwich available to them at Log Cabin Deli.
Any report card with an “A” or equivalent high mark for schools not using the A-F system will receive a certificate for a free sandwich at Log Cabin Deli. The offer is good through March 15.
“We reached out to Mauston, New Lisbon, Necedah (schools districts),” said Log Cabin Deli Owner Aaron Cuyler. “It can apply to anybody honestly, even if they’re not in our target market. Anybody that comes in with a report card can get a free (sandwich)... They’re welcome to come in. Any school is good.”
“I wanted to do something for the community and I was thinking about what we could do for the school age kids,” Cuyler said. “I reached out to the Bank of Mauston to see if they would support the program.”
The offer is good for any sandwich on Log Cabin Deli’s menu.
“I think it’s a great incentive,” said Mauston Mayor Brian McGuire of the program. “It’s kind of a recognition, not a reward, but a recognition of people doing good work.”
“Bank of Mauston’s logo is ‘helping our community grow’ and when we look at investing in our community, that can mean many different things,” said Bank of Mauston Marketing Director Kelly White. “One thing that’s very important to us… is our students. This program is available to students as young as kindergarten.”
“We have a lot of kids that were home over winter break that are doing really well in school and we want to open it up and recognize those kids that are really giving it that extra effort,” White said. “Or maybe a parent. Maybe there’s a parent going back to night school… We want to be a community that rewards the students that are making it happen.”
Cuyler said he hopes to see the free sandwich program grow into a community tradition.
“I want it to be a program that, 10 or 15 years down the road, kids who are coming in today can bring their kids and bring them to the Bank of Mauston or here and get a free sandwich,” Cuyler said. “I want it to be an annual tradition, definitely.”
