Dale Henry Helgerson, 82, Watertown, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Todd Iverson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Jerome’s Cemetery in Columbus.

Dale was born March 18, 1936, the son of Clarence and Mabel (Stange) Helgerson in Columbus. Dale grew up in the township of Hamden near Columbus, attended Columbus High School and graduated in 1954. He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, from 1954-1956, then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960.

Dale was married to Diane Canino on May 5, 1962, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. He was a meteorological technician for the National Weather Service for 35 years. He retired from the weather office in Sullivan in 2001. He belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown. Dale and his wife loved music and dancing.

Dale is survived by his wife of 56 years; his two sons, Daryl Helgerson of Watertown, and Craig (Cathy) Helgerson of Rockford, Illinois; two step-grandchildren, Katie and Hannah Willis of Rockford, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Marcia Helgerson of Cross Plains, and Mary Helgerson of Sun Prairie; sister, Betty (Jerry) Swann of Bellvue, Colorado; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon Helgerson and Kenneth Helgerson.
